Lara Dental Prime accepts Barwon Health issued dental vouchers, including VEDS, VGDS and VDS vouchers. These vouchers may allow eligible patients to receive certain dental services at a private dental clinic when issued by a public or community dental service.
If you have received a dental voucher from Barwon Health or another eligible public dental provider, please call our clinic before booking so we can check the voucher type, expiry date, treatment details and appointment requirements.
What are Victorian dental vouchers?
Victorian dental voucher schemes allow private dental providers to deliver certain public dental services when a voucher has been issued by an eligible public dental service.
The Victorian Department of Health lists three voucher schemes: the Victorian Emergency Dental Scheme, Victorian General Dental Scheme and Victorian Denture Scheme.
Which dental vouchers do we accept?
Lara Dental Prime accepts the following Barwon Health issued dental vouchers:
- VEDS — Victorian Emergency Dental Scheme
- VGDS — Victorian General Dental Scheme
- VDS — Victorian Denture Scheme
Some patients may refer to VEDS as a VED or emergency dental voucher. The exact name and details should be shown on the voucher paperwork.
What may VEDS cover?
VEDS is generally used for emergency dental concerns. Depending on the voucher and the clinical situation, this may relate to toothache management, emergency fillings, extractions, severe gum inflammation, starting root canal treatment, or limited wisdom tooth situations.
The voucher itself will state what has been approved, so please bring it with you and call ahead before attending.
What may VGDS cover?
VGDS is generally used for broader general dental treatment. Depending on the voucher, it may relate to toothache management, finishing root canal treatment, wisdom tooth removal, or a general check-up and clean.
Coverage depends on what has been approved on your voucher and your dental assessment.
What may VDS cover?
VDS is the Victorian Denture Scheme. It may relate to new dentures, denture repairs, or denture additions, depending on what has been approved.
If your voucher is for denture care, please call us with the voucher details so we can confirm appointment suitability.
Will the voucher cover everything?
Not always. Dental vouchers usually have conditions, limits and expiry dates. Some vouchers may involve a co-payment, and treatment outside the approved voucher items may not be covered.
We will help you understand what is written on your voucher, but final coverage depends on the voucher terms and the treatment required after assessment.
What should you bring to your appointment?
Please bring:
- Your original dental voucher paperwork
- Any referral or instructions from Barwon Health or the issuing clinic
- Your Medicare card, concession card or relevant ID if applicable
- Any recent dental X-rays if you have them
- A list of medications and medical conditions
Why should you call before booking?
Voucher appointments may need to be booked differently from standard appointments. Calling first allows our team to check the voucher type, expiry date, approved treatment area and appointment timing.
This helps avoid confusion and makes sure we allocate the right appointment for your dental concern.
